Oregon City Evangelical Church offers various opportunities for involvement in Music Ministry!
Our mission is to glorify God through:
- Worship and Praise: UPWARD Expression.
- Fellowship and Nurture: INWARD Expression
- Service and Witness: OUTWARD Expression.
We develop musical leaders who are equipped to serve the Lord with excellence, both now and in the years to come!
The choir meets weekly on Wednesdays from 7-8:30 PM, but extends rehearsal until 9 PM during the 6-8 weeks prior to major productions. September and January are particularly good times to join choir, although new members are welcome any time.
Various ways to participate in the Adult Choir:
While consistent attendance at rehearsals and performances is essential to excellence in ministry, the demands of work and family make it difficult or impossible for some singers to be involved in all of the choir’s activities. That’s why we have devised several levels of involvement for those who wish to be in the Adult Choir.
- Sunday Morning Only - some choir members choose to sing only for regular Wednesday rehearsals and in the Sunday morning services.
- Musicals Only - some singers prefer short-term commitments with the concentrated effort and/or evangelistic thrust of participating in one or more of our major productions. Musicals-Only members rehearse 6-8 Wednesdays prior to the production from 8:15-9 PM, attend the retreat rehearsals, and commit to extended dress rehearsals during the week prior to the production.
- Combination - at the heart of our choir are those who participate in all choir activities. Their worship leadership on Sunday mornings, fellowship in C.A.R.E. Circles and retreats, and involvement in our outreach musicals affords all the benefits of belonging to our choir family, provides a consistent core for the choir, and extends a generous gift of service to our Lord and His Church.
Friendship Company Chior
Currently directed by Joni Bolton under the supervision of Pastor Dave LeRud, for Grades 1-6 meets on Sunday mornings during the 8:15 service. Children prepare and perform fully dramatized musicals as well as occassionally provide special music in the worship services. In this day of school budget cuts our schools have greatly reduced music education for children. This program provides not only an excellent music education, but also trains children to serve and worship the Lord through music. September and January are “open enrollment” months during which you can give your child an opportunity to experience choir and decide whether he/she wants to join. You can find an Enrollment form on our FORMS page of this website.
Handbells
Both at Christmastime and throughout the year, English Handbells provide beautiful sounds that enhance our worship. Adult Handbell Ensemble performs periodically in our services or for special events. The ensemble rehearses weekly on Mondays from 6:30-8:30pm in Rm. D2, directed by Donna Douglass. New ringers are always welcome!
Children’s Handbells rehearse on Mondays from 4:30-6:00 pm in Rm D2. Donna Douglass provides an engaging hand-on experience for children, grades 2-5 who are interested in learning to play bells.
